Do You Know The Difference Between Seeing Life Through A Glass & A Mirror? This Might Shock You

"Seek First" is a platform inspired from Matthew 6:33 where we are encouraged to Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, live righteously, and everything we need will be given to us.

Our objective is to show you the practicality of this verse and hopefully inspire you to seek Him first daily. We use the S.O.A.P model as a study guide to help fulfill this mandate. We pick different scriptures and try to figure out how we can apply them to our daily lives, how they relate to the Kingdom of God and how we can live righteously through them. (S)cripture:

"So the Lord sent Nathan the prophet to tell David this story:

'There were two men in a certain town. One was rich, and one was poor. The rich man owned a great many sheep and cattle. The poor man owned nothing but one little lamb he had bought.

He raised that little lamb, and it grew up with his children. It ate from the man's own plate and drank from his cup. He cuddled it in his arms like a baby daughter. One day a guest arrived at the home of the rich man. But instead of killing an animal from his own flock or herd, he took the poor man's lamb and killed it and prepared it for his guests'

David was furious. As surely as the Lord lives, he vowed, any man who would do such a thing deserves to die! He must repay four lambs to the poor man for the one he stole and for having no pity. Then Nathan said to David, you are that man! The Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul"

(O)bservation:

It reminds me of how a lot of us see life through a window rather than a mirror. We are quick to judge others when they do wrong while ignoring the fact we might actually be doing the same thing.

Matthew 7:3-5 "And why worry about a speck in your friends eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, Let me help you get rid of that speck in your friends eye, when you can't see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye, then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friends eye"

If David had received that message through a mirror, he wouldn't have been so judgemental knowing he had also done the same thing.

(A)pplication:

I need to practice listening more than i speak...practice self reflection more than i judge others.

One practical thing we can do though, if you have noticed...whenever we take notes in church or seminars, we usually write in the tense the speaker is using, for example the Pastor says "You should forgive your neighbour..." most people are likely to write the exact same thing in their notes "YOU should forgive your neighbour..." further reinforcing the 2nd person tense used by the speaker...when we then read it at a later time, we read it exactly the same way again as "YOU should forgive your neighbour".

What this does unconsciously is it helps us point the finger at someone else rather than ourselves because our brains recognise "YOU" as speaking to someone else.

But, what if instead of writing "You", we wrote "I" instead? That way when we write and read, it reminds us personally on what we should be doing, instead of what others aren't doing.

(P)rayer:

Thank You for opening my eyes to this secret Father, thank You for using me as a vessel to reveal your Word to the world. I ask that you give me the Grace to always receive your message through the lens of a mirror...help me see the flaws in my heart and focus on the (I)'s rather than the (YOU)'s in Jesus Name.

Now, it is your turn...what do you think? I'll like to hear from you in the comments section.
